Zimbabwe Finishes 2nd At AUSC Region Five Youth Games
ZIMBABWE retained their second spot at the just ended African Union Sports Council Region Five Under-20 Youth Games in Luanda, Angola after amassing 96 medals.
The Games, which ended on Sunday attracted over 1 000 athletes from 10 countries in the Southern Africa Region - Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe came second behind South Africa who underlined their status as the best team in the region when they won the Games for the seventh time.
They have won the Games since their inception in 2004 and they got 125 medals - 65 gold, 35 silver and 25 bronze while Zimbabwe had - 19 gold, 31 silver and 46 bronze.
Zimbabwe had athletes in athletics, athletics for the visually impaired, basketball girls, boxing, football boys and girls, gymnastics, judo, netball, swimming and tennis.
And going into the Games they have hoped to dislodge South Africa from the top spot but it proved a difficult task for Team Zimbabwe, which returned home on Monday.
