Women Football Stakeholders’ Joint Meeting Moved To Thusday

THE postponed Sports Commission, ZIFA and Women Football stakeholders’ joint meeting to look at issues affecting women football will be held on Thursday at the Commission’s offices in Harare.

The meeting was initially slated for last week before it was moved to this Thursday to enable other interested stakeholders from outside Harare to attend.

Some of the issues that have been raised include the need for a proper league structure to run women football as well as the inter and intra fighting among women football stakeholders.

Sports Commission acting director-general, Joseph Muchechetere on Wednesday confirmed that the meeting will take place at their offices, at the National Sports Stadium.

“Those interested but are not part of ZIFA members are invited. We have invited direct stakeholders ZTISU, NAPH and NASH and other stakeholders who have got interest in women football.

“Us as SRC and the Ministry of Sport and Recreation we thought this is the right time to intervene. At the same time ZIFA approached us, they needed our support,” said Muchechetere.

In September last year, the SRC Board commissioned a Committee of Inquiry into the state and administration of football and some of the observations made concerning women football include;

·         That women’s football operated without a constitution.

·         It was observed that there was no proper league structure to run women’s football.

·         There was no proper support system from ZIFA to the women football structure.

·         That there were too many inter and intra fighting among the women football stakeholders which stifled the growth and development of the game.

 Muchechetere said they are hoping to come up with recommendations to be implemented by ZIFA in addressing the current situation.

“So as the Sport and Recreation Commission, a stakeholder in football, we have got an interest in football, in organising sport for football and in particular women football.

“We are coming in to support Zifa and to support the stakeholders, the girl child that wants to play football, so that we have a better organisation of football in the country. That’s also part of our mandate as Sport and Recreation Commission,” Muchechetere said.
