Steve Mangongo's Pledge

Zimbabwe Cricket Emerging side coach Steve Mangongo says his side will bring home the Africa T20 Cup from South Africa next week.

Zimbabwe are through to the semi-finals following an elimination draw that was conducted after two of their group matches were rained off.

The Emerging side will know their semi-final opponents after the last pool D matches being played over the weekend.

But Mangongo is looking beyond the semi-finals that are slated for September 30 at venues to be advised.

“Certainly yes,” Mangongo replied when asked if he thinks his team has what it takes to clinch a maiden Africa T20 Cup title.

“The bunch is fantastic, they have gelled very well,” he said.

“There are youngsters and a few seniors, all of them are definitely looking forward to go and upset the South African sides and bring the trophy back home.”

The Emerging side was involved in a three T20 match series against a Mash Eagles Select side at Country Club on Friday afternoon.

Mangongo is satisfied with what his lads exhibited during the practice matches.

“I think the guys are well prepared now and it’s up to them to have self belief, but in terms of the preparatory and skills work all is in place,” he said.

“I am happy with how they played against the Eagles Select. We played three good games and I think the players are ready to go,” said Mangongo.

He has however urged his team to ‘kill off’ games when they get into winning positions.

“Big match temperament is something you can’t coach, it has to come from inside. I hope the boys will have that which is required when we go into the semi-final and the final.

“I think the key thing is to bat big, a lot of the guys are scoring quick 30s and 40s, (but) you need to be ruthless, bat seven to ten overs and kill the game, it’s an area we got to improve.”

Zimbabwe lost their opening Pool C match to Free State by seven wickets in the first phase of the competition during the first week of September.

Clashes against Border and Easterns were abandoned without a ball bowled due to rain.
