THREE officials from the Ministry of Sport and Recreation, including the driver, died on the spot while 10 were hospitalized when a CMED bus they were travelling in overturned and landed on its roof at Turnpike along the Harare-Bulawayo highway late Thursday.

The bus was on its way to Hwange, the hosts of this year’s Youths in Education (YES) Games.

Although the Minister of Sport and Recreation Makhosini Hlongwane was yet to give a statement by Friday morning, a Ministry official who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the accident.

Images of the bus, landing on its roof, have been circulating on social media.

“Yes the bus that was carrying Ministry officials had an accident closed to Turnpike along Harare-Bulawayo road. Three died and 10 were hospitalized,” said the official.

“We are still checking the condition of those hospitalized.”
