Sports Leaders Institute of Zimbabwe Ready For Summer Camp

THE Sports Leaders Institute of Zimbabwe (Sliz) has invited Devota Marwa from Tanzania’s University of Dar es Salaam and Zambia’s Musunsa Sombwa as guest speakers at its Summer Camp set for Eastern Highlands resort of Nyanga later this month.

Marwa has been invited to present on physical activity and the girl child, while Sombwa will tackle sport ethical issues, which include age cheating and fair play at the conference set to run from November 25-27 at a Nyanga Hotel.

Officials from the African Sports Management Association (ASMA) have also been invited to officiate at the third edition of the Sliz summer camp.

Russell Mhiribidi, the Sliz director, said ASMA’s presence at the summer camp would give participants a different dimension on sports issues.

“We concluded topics to be tackled at the summer camp long back and have a bias on physical education and sport (PES), a syllabus that the government will roll out next year. Dr Marwa and Sombwa are two of the foreign presenters we’ve lined up and we also expect officials from ASMA. What they will do is share with us their experiences about PE as a subject, seeing that their countries introduced that as an examinable subject long back,” said Mhiribidi.

Sliz has also roped in renowned sports doctor Nick Munyonga, who is also the senior national soccer men’s team doctor, to present on injury prevention and doping.

Mhiribidi will speak on career pathways in physical education and sport.

“After coming up with the topics and programme for the camp, I can confidently say we’re about 90 percent ready for the retreat. Preparations are going on well and we are expecting between 300 and 400 participants. Registration is ongoing and those interested can contact our office or make online registration on our website,” said Mhiribidi.
