Sibanda Urges Chevrons To ‘Execute’
Inform batsman Vusi Sibanda says Zimbabwe has to ‘execute’ their plans well in the World T20 Group A qualifier against Scotland on Thursday.
The 32- year-old opening batsman scored a 46-ball 59 in the Chevrons’ 14-run win over Hong Kong in their opening match of the competition on Tuesday.
“I am very optimistic about the game against Scotland,” Sibanda told Sportszone.
“They are also a good side, but if we execute our plans well I am sure we will come out with a positive result,” he said.
The Manicaland Mountaineers batsman wants to maintain his form against Scotland who succumbed to a 14-run loss at the hands of Afghanistan.
“It’s always a challenge to maintain good form, but that’s what we thrive for.
“I just have to focus on each opportunity that comes above all respecting the opposition,” said Sibanda who was unaware that he had scored his maiden T20I 50 during the Hong Kong match.
“It didn’t cross my mind at the time.
“Having lost wickets in quick succession I tried to stay out there a long as possible to give ourselves the best possible chance to put up a decent score,” he said.
During that inning Sibanda exhibited confidence as he unfurled some elegant shots something that had deserted him in recent times.
“I am just trying to have fun while I am out there,” he said.
“I have to grab every opportunity I get,” said Sibanda who has enjoyed a good opening stand with skipper Hamilton Masakadza.
In five innings the duo have scored 220 runs at 7.25 giving the team a good start to the innings.
“It has been good to have him around he is bringing a different side of the game.
“We enjoy each other’s success, so we encourage each other at all times, I guess that’s been the key,” he said of his partnership with Masakadza.
