Prince Edwards Dominate Schools Tennis
The Prince Edward School tennis team’s Mim Du Toit Cup juggernaut has reached new heights after a record seventh successive triumph in the competition.
Prince Edward won the final at home on October 8 after edging St John’s College 9-7 to assert their dominance in a competition they have made their own.
“I would say our programs are working out well,” said PE coach Linsent Chitiyo.
“It’s the systems that we advocated for that started working in 2007.
“This year being the seventh one to win the Mim Du Toit Cup and still being a competitive school in the schools league is good on our part,” he said.
Chitiyo said pressure of defending their title deserted them long back.
“We are enjoying the hot seat now,” he said.
Prince Edward captain Andrew Kunaka hailed team work displayed by his boys during the cup competition.
“We worked together to win the cup, I think the guys cooperated well and we were a team, one team.
“I never thought I would be holding the cup at 16,” he said.
Prince Edward walloped CBC 12-0 in the quarter finals and were also ruthless against the Wayne Black coached Falcon College whom they trounced 12-0 too.
The Mim Du Toit Cup started in 1926 as a commemoration of the late wife of South African Lawn Tennis Union representative, J.P du Toit Esq.
