Pool Craze In Mutare
QUALIFIERS for the All Africa Pool Association (AAPA) finals have begun in the country’s 10 provinces with Manicaland hosting its provincial qualifiers on Saturday.
Zimbabwe will host the AAPA games from August 28 to September 2.
Uganda hosted last year’s AAPA games.
Mutare Pool League (MPL) chairman Fungai Makoni confirmed Manicaland’s qualifiers set for Fantasy Pool Club in the city.
“Participants for the provincial qualifiers for the AAPA competition will be drawn from the seven districts of the province.
“Winners from this tournament representing male and female categories will participate in the national qualifiers to be held in May at a venue to be advised by the country’s pool mother body.
“Those that will make it at national qualifiers will form the national team which will compete at the AAPA games,” said Makoni.
AAPA is an affiliate of the World Pool Association.
Meanwhile, Mutare Pool League successfully hosted a two day one man tournament dubbed 'Better than the Best' at Golden Peacock Villa Hotel.
There were 190 participants coming mainly from the 20 clubs in the league.
Chomba Mwali of Fantasy pool club took first position with one Marira from new comers Chitsa Bar coming second.
Marvelous 'Sir Villa' Chigwada from Snipers pool club was third with Jawet Munangwa from Machikichori pool club coming fourth.
In the ladies category, 2015 Carling Black Label champion, Shamiso Musimwa took first position followed by one Sekai from Soul City pool club.
Yvonne Nyamadzawo from Fantasy pool club came in third.
“I would like to send words of gratitude to Golden Peacock Villa Hotel management for the sponsorship they poured in for the tourney.
“It shows that they are our all time weather friends who increasingly entrusting us as a leagues to promote their brand,” said Makoni.
