Nyanga Hosts Sports Leaders Institute Of Zimbabwe 3rd Edition
THE third edition of the Sports Leaders Institute of Zimbabwe (SLIZ) Summer Camp is underway in the Eastern Highlands resort, Nyanga.
The camp which has attracted foreign participants is viewed as a game changer for sport, having been endorsed by the Africa Union Sports Council Region 5 three years.
The summer camp’s keynote speaker is Dr Joyce Ndabi of Tanzania’s University of Dar es Salaam who will make a presentation on physical activity and the girl child.
Zambia’s Musunsa Sombwa who used to operate from his country’s Olympic Development Centre in Lusaka will tackle sport ethical issues which include age cheating and fair play.
Local-based presenters at the camp include World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited doctor Nicholas Munyonga whose presentation will be on injury prevention and doping.
The deputy director of schools sport, physical education, arts and culture in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Tendai Tagara will unpack the new Government policy on physical education and sport (PES) that is set to be rolled out in schools across the country next year.
Mhiribidi will on saturday speak on career pathways in physical education and sport.
SLIZ was established in 2013 and their first camp held in July 2014 was at Mazvikadei resort near Banket in Mashonaland West province. The inaugural Winter Camp had five participants with the November 2014 Summer Camp attracting 44 participants in Nyanga.
In July last year, 70 participants attended the Winter Camp at the Matopos National Park.
At the Kariba November 2015 Summer Camp organisers were overwhelmed with the response that surpassed the 200 participant target by 67.
They had 185 people turning up for the Winter Camp held in July this year at the Great Zimbabwe in Masvingo.
