Mvumvure Leads Team Zimbabwe

United States-based sprinter Gabriel Mvumvure will lead the Zimbabwe senior athletics team at the Africa Senior Championships in Durban this weekend.

The meet will largely be used as a platform to set qualifier times for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games but having qualified in the 100m sprint, Mvumvure will be using this as part of his preparations for the August Games.

NAAZ believe his presence in the team will add a mental edge to the local athletes.

“He will provide psychological support for local athletes trying to qualify for the Olympics,” said Naaz president Tendai Tagara.

The United States based sprinter  became the first Zimbabwean track and field athlete to qualify for the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games after achieving an Olympic qualifying time of 10.14 seconds – a time 0.02seconds better than the qualification time.
