Mr, Ms Chikanga explodes

A TOTAL of 25 male participants and six females are expected to take to the podium when the much-awaited inaugural Mr, Ms Chikanga bodybuilding competition rolls into life tomorrow (Saturday) at Chikanga Community Hall.

The event starts at 6pm.

Preparations for the potentially enthralling event started early this month, thanks to initiatives by the Chikanga Amateur Bodybuilding Association.

This will become the maiden contest for the Chikanga Amateur Bodybuilding Association, an affiliate of the provincial body - the Manicaland Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Association.

Interestingly, leading Manicaland bodybuilder, Brighton Mazikana will do a guest pose during the Mr, Ms Chikanga contest

In an interview, Chikanga Amateur Bodybuilding Association secretary, Victor Chirochierwa confirmed that they were finalising preparations for the event.

“The Chikanga Amateur Bodybuilding Association, an affiliate of Manicaland Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Association has organised the Mr, Ms Chikanga contest which will take place at Chikanga Hall on Saturday (tomorrow).

“This event will be hosted in partnership with Chikanga Fitness Centre and we are expecting bodybuilders from all corners of the area to partake in the event.

“The competitors will compete in seniors and juniors categories, bench press, deadlift and bodybuilding. We are hoping to kick start with a highly successful contest so that we set a good precedent from the onset,” he said.

He added that the contest was an initiative meant to identify the best bodybuilders in the area so that they could compete at provincial level before making it to national competitions.

“This is an initiative meant to have the best from Chikanga so that they can proceed to compete in the provincial finals. We are expecting participants from Chikanga, from Phase One to Three, Westlea, Dreamhouse, Zimta and Benwin,” said Chirochierwa.

The Mr, Ms Chikanga contest, will be the first competition to be held at local level, below provincial competition level, especially after the election into office of the current office bearers.

Dangamvura and Sakubva bodybuilding associations, both affiliates of the provincial body, are also expected to follow suit and hold their local competitions before the provincial contest.
