Mighty Warriors look to see off Tanzania
Mighty Warriors coach Shadreck Mlauzi says they will not allow last week’s player strike to affect them when they host Tanzania in Sunday’s 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers first round, second leg match.
Zimbabwe go into this match enjoying a 2-1 lead from the first leg played in Tanzania two weeks ago.
But the Mighty Warriors preparations were last week disturbed when players boycotted training in protest over unpaid allowances and winning bonuses.
But the team resumed training at the weekend and Mlauzi said the disruption will not have any bearing on Sunday’s match slated for Rufaro Stadium.
“I do not think the issue of the strike is still a problem.
Outstanding issues were resolved and the girls are happy in camp and rearing to go,” Mlauzi said.
“Everything is going on well at training and we are all waiting for the match day. There are however injury concerns on Rudo Neshamba and Viola Ndlovu. I hope they will be fit by Sunday. We just want to go out there and protect our lead. We have not yet won this round so we have to be careful and take Tanzania seriously.”
If the Mighty Warriors sail past Tanzania, they are likely to meet Zambia who get into this weekend with a 2-0 advantage over Namibia. Zimbabwe are seeking a fourth appearance at the Women Cup of Nations where they last graced in 2004.
