Mash West Dominates Darts Tourney
MASHONALAND West A darts team continued with their dominance when they won a record fifth Champion of Champions Dart Tournament in Kwekwe at the weekend.
Led by Kudzai Nyemba the Chinhoyi based team saw off the challenge of Bulawayo Province’s Railstars in the final and pocketed $500 for their efforts.
Mashonaland West A has now won the tournament five times out of seven attempts and have vowed to continue working hard and win more events.
To get to the podium, the team started from the group stages where they won all their matches and their toughest challenge came from the hands of ZRP Buchwa in the quarter finals where they won by one.
Nyemba the team captain said they are happy to have won and called on the sports commission, ministry and darts association to organize some international events for them as they are lacking real competition locally.
“The game was good very competitive and ZRP Buchwa gave us a torrid time we are happy that we come up with a result.
The finals we were composed and Railstars did not do their homework well especially playing against the defending champions in the final.
“We are grateful to my father and mentor David Nyemba who has encouraged the team through and through,” said Nyemba.
Organised by the National Darts Association of Zimbabwe, the tournament’s seventh edition saw thirteen teams drawn from the country’s seven provinces compete for honours.
Harare, Bulawayo, Midlands, Mash Central and West provinces contributed with two teams each, while Masvingo and Mat South had one representative each.
The Mash West Team was awarded $500, medals and a floating trophy.
The teams were grouped into four groups of four teams and one group of three teams.
Each received $200 for participating while the runners-up Railstars pocketed $400 as the silver medalists.
ZRP Buchwa pocketed $300 and medals while Harare Raylton who came fourth got the same amount.
The four losing quarter finalists walked away with $250 each.
