Manyuchi Unfazed

CHARLES MANYUCHI is unfazed by the administrative hiccups surrounding his historic World Boxing Council welterweight Silver title defence fight set for October 14 at the Harare International Conference Centre.

Manyuchi’s promoters Oriental Quarries are yet to confirm the new challenger after the initial challenger Damien Martin of France reportedly pulled out under unclear circumstances.

The 26-year-old Zimbabwean champion looks set to fight Jose Agustin Julio Feria of Colombia and the promoters will likely announce the new challenger on Monday.

The WBC are yet to confirm the challenger on their website just 14 days before the big night.

However, this has not distracted Manyuchi who has upped his preparations at his base in neighbouring Zambia.

Manyuchi, who is commonly known as the Busy Bee in boxing circles, posted a rather sarcastic message on his Face book page Saturday morning before declaring his readiness for the fight.

“I was so touched when a bird asked a Bee, I always see you getting something from flowers but to my surprise yesterday I saw people holding fire at your door trying to get what you make from flowers.

“Then the Manyuchi Bee answered honey, honey, honey. They might come in numbers to destroy and take what I make from flowers which is sweet honey but God gave me that talent to make honey so if I can't make it, they can't have it.

“The Bee laughed and said I make it because I always sting on top of things.

“Ready for the Fight 14 October,” read the post.

Manyuchi goes into the fight carrying an impressive 19-2-1 record and bracing for a possible rematch with Russian champion Dmitry Mikhaylenko, the boxer he beat to claim the silver title in May.

The rematch could happen on November 18 in Russia.
