Manyuchi Goes Back To Roots
Masvingo province is expected to grind to a halt on Thursday when WBC silver welterweight champion Charles Manyuchi visits the oldest town to pay homage to a man who played a crucial role in his professional boxing career.
Although Manyuchi’s career blossomed under the management of Oriental Quarries of Zambia, his first promoter was Edison Zvobgo Jr of Masvingo.
The 26-year-old champion spent four years under Zvobgo’s wings and he will never forget that chapter.
“I owe a lot to my brother, father Zvobgo. He took me from the bottom and assisted me. I could not have been the same had Zvobgo not taken me under his wings,” said Manyuchi.
The WBC champion is also expected to launch boxing at Victoria High School as part of his efforts to give back to the community.
“I believe there are thousands of Manyuchis out there, they need our support to grow boxing wise,” said Manyuchi.
Manyuchi’s profile continues to grow and last month he knocked out Julio Agustin Ferio of Colombia after only 2 minutes 42 seconds in a non title fight at the Harare International Conference Centre.
His manager Chris Malunga has revealed that he will travel to Miami in the United States to source “huge” fights for Manyuchi.
