Mangwiro Skeptical Over Policy Document

The Zimbabwe Football Association Technical Director Tawurayi Mangwiro is a bit skeptical over the new policy document introduced by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation with the aim of ensuring transparency in the selection of players for National teams.

Mangwiro said the new policy is tricky when it comes to football as there are dangers that coaches might end up being slaves of the document.

‘It’s good that we are going to have such a document that give guidelines to selection of national teams, but football is different from the other say minority sports. It may work but with football there is a lot you will need to consider. Hopefully it would not see the coach ending up being a slave of the document. That’s how I see it,” said Mangwiro.
The ministry of Sport and Recreation designed a selection policy document which will work as a guiding framework to ensure high level transparency in the make-up of national teams so that the best athletes are always picked to represent the nation at all competitions.

The ministry of sports and recreation say the formulation of the policy was necessitated by the realization that national team selection processes were often susceptible to malpractices such as nepotism, favouritism, bribery and discrimination on financial grounds which often compromised results.
