Olympic 200m backstroke champion Kirsty Coventry has launched “Heroes”, a scheme designed to empower children through sport and in turn help to build stronger and safer communities in Zimbabwe.

The “Heroes” programme is a community-based program based in Chitungwiza where Kirsty and a group of volunteers provide free sporting activities to children teaching them life skills. 

Kirsty says they target “underserved areas of Zimbabwe by utilizing existing schools, sports centres, fields, and volunteer coaches from within these communities’’.
