Pumulani Maphosa was the toast of Zimbabwean karatekas at the Shorin Kempo Kaikan Regional tournament in Johannesburg, scooping gold in the men Under-65kg section on Saturday.

Zimbabwe also dominated in the open category with two podium finishes as Brian Chiringa claimed a silver while Tangayi Mhlanga scooped bronze with gold going to South Africa’s Thabani Mndebele.

Swaziland, and hosts South Africa also participated in the full contact tournament.

In the women’s section Sharleen Amoda got a bronze while Zimbabwe’s lightweight champion, Precious Kazembe was fourth.
