Japanese Ambassador Cup On
JUDO Association of Zimbabwe president Debi Jeans says they are looking forward to an exciting tournament when they host the second Japanese Ambassador Cup on Sunday at Hartman House.
The tournament will feature four teams made up of judokas selected from different clubs, namely, Mbare, Rolf Valley, Mabvuku, Highfield Children’s Home, Dzivarasekwa and Prince Edward.
Jeans said they are not only looking at the competition side of the event but also promoting the principles of judo.
“This is a superb event to bring the judo family together at the beginning of the year and inspire everyone to look forward to working and training together in 2017.
“Whilst it is noble to compete for oneself, one’s club, province or country, this event serves to remind athletes that all these are second to the greatest endeavour in the martial arts, which is to live the principles by which they train and learn in judo. And whilst striving for excellence, remaining humble always.
“These values contribute ultimately in a good citizen of the world,” said Jeans.
The four teams are named after the judo principles of Courage, Respect, Honour and Friendship.
The tournament is sponsored the Embassy of Japan.
