Giannis is top African player

Giannis Antetokounmpo is trying to keep the Milwaukee Bucks in the playoff race conversation with respectful big numbers.

Antetokounmpo recorded his fourth triple-double in the last 11 games in the Bucks’ 109-100 win over Brooklyn on Sunday, and he becomes this week’s SuperSport African Player of the Week for games played from 7-13 March.

In Brooklyn, the 21-year-old Nigerian-Greek finished with 28 points, 11 rebounds and career-high 14 assists, and in the process the Bucks (29-39) increased their winning streak to three games.

At times it sounds an understatement to say that Antetokounmpo is one of the most improved players in the NBA.

He is averaging career-highs 16.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 65 games this season.

As the Bucks battled the Nets on Sunday, he left everybody talking about his athleticism and talent. With two dribbles he faked a pass to finish with a tremendous dunk.

Bucks centre Greg Monroe said: "What you see tonight is just a product of his hard work.

"At this point we see him every day. It doesn't surprise me. He's physically gifted. That's a play that only one or two other players in the league can make. That's how good he is."

Bucks head coach Jason Kidd added: “Tonight he was able to do everything. When we started the game, I thought he did the best of setting the pace. And it was very fast.

“We know what it has done internally but also growing as a leader on this team. When you have the responsibility of four other guys on the floor, making sure everybody gets involved, you have to use your voice or you use the pass. He's learning how to do both of those.”

The Bucks host the red-hot Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning SA time). -http://www.supersport.com/basketball/nba/news/160314/Antetokounmpo_African_Player_of_the_Week
