Fillies race Postponed

THE 2018 edition of the Fillies Classic which were scheduled for this past weekend will now be run on February 25 at Borrowdale Park with the same fields and runners expected in the starting stalls.

Several runners were lined up with Coachella expected to continue with his fine form but the rains which are still continuing in the capital saw Mashonaland Turf Club and the racing stakeholders cancelling the races.

The sprinter won the 1200m HRIB Gold Cup in December, but all of Super Good, Life Is Good and Road To Dubai finished within 1.10 lengths of the winner.

They were supposed to step out again on Sunday in the 1260m Control Freak Open Handicap – with the addition of Mathematician who was set to carry top weight of 60 kgs.

Life Is Good had won twice (over 1100m and 1450m) since finishing third to Coachella, and was to take on some of his former rivals the son of Var (USA) will wait for a little lnger if he is to be heading for a hat-trick.

Bridget Stidolph will saddle four of the five runners, and the Swanson yard will be represented by Road To Dubai.

The Zimbabwe owners and trainers said in a statement that the race was postponed due to incessant rains.

“I have been advised by the Racing Manager at Borrowdale Park that tomorrow's race meeting February 11 will not take place due to heavy rain. The Fillies Classic which were scheduled for this past weekend will now be run on February 25 at Borrowdale Park,” they stated.
