Davidson, Bere For MTB World Championships

Skye Davidson and Kombo Bere are set to represent the country at the Under-23 MTB World Championships to be held in the Czech Republic next week.

“We have a number of upcoming events. We have the MTB World Championships in the Czech Republic next week where we have two riders competing in the Under-23 level, said Cycling Zimbabwe president Andrew Donaldson.

He said they rely of bikers funding their own trips abroad, a situation that has seen some of the top bikers not being able to participate in international competitions.

“We basically rely on our athletes to be self-funded when traveling abroad and this often means our top riders don’t go and compete outside the country as this is costly,”

But they have only been able to send athletes for the World Championships.

“The association has also managed to send teams to take part in the World Championships in all three disciplines over the past two years,” said Donaldson.

Upcoming events include the BMX Afcon set for South Africa as well as the Road World.
