Comanche Brave Takes Castle Tankard

COMANCHE Brave, ridden by Evert Pfeiffer, won the 55th edition of the Castle Tankard in a thrilling race at Borrowable Race Course yesterday.

The Amy Bronkhorst trained horse romped to victory, ahead of Royal Honour and Mathematician, to walked away with the US$30 000 in one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious races.

Royal Honour, owned by Juan Taljaard, finished runner-up ahead of Mathematician who came-up short yet again after coming second last year.

For their efforts, Royal Honour, which was ridden by Jarryd Penny and Mathematician (Calvin Habib), walked away with US$10 00 and US$ 6000 respectively.

The winning rider Pfeiffer was full of praise of his horse.

“He is a front runner and my whole plan was to get him to the front and just let him roll and he kept on rolling,” he said.

“We had no one who was challenging him so we don’t really know what’s left in the tank.
“He is a big horse and I think he can do well.

“Thanks to the owners and to Amie for bringing me up here I really appreciate it,” Pfeiffer said.
Comanche Brave trainer, Bronkhorst was ‘out of words’ for their triumph.

“As you can see I’m very happy and I can’t describe the win,” she said.

“There no word at the moments I’m still enjoying the win it’s a great thing to do.

“Thank you to Evert my jockey for coming up (and) the owners,” she said.

One of the horse’s owners, Dave Samuels described their win as “unbelievable”.

“I can tell you something right now.

I have owned this horse for eight months and it’s been probably five wins out of ten races.

“To win this in this short space of time is unbelievable.

“I’ve got partners that are enthusiastic, we meet once every two weeks and I think it’s just a token of enthusiasm and it’s been a great day thank you Delta, a great trainer and a great jockey,” said a jubilant Samuels.
