Churchill High Pupil For Major League Baseball Camp
Churchill Boys High School pupil Ashlone Chibvure will represent Zimbabwe at the Major League Baseball African elite camp in South Africa early next month.
Chibvure, a Lower 6 student won the ticket to represent Zimbabwe after being voted the best player after nationwide selections which saw the selectors move to all provinces in the country.
Major League Baseball country representative John Madziro said Chibvure shone better than other players during the trial period.
“Ashlone impressed the selectors with his immense talent and I am very confident that he is going to do well during the training camp. We carried out trials in all provinces and the best players from all the provinces came for the final trial in Harare at which Ashlone was picked by South African selectors who oversaw the process,” said Madziro.
Chibvure who is the first Zimbabwean to attend the African elite camp said he is hopeful that he will be able to impress scouts from the Major League Baseball in the United States.
“This is an important opportunity for me to showcase my talent to the scouts coming from the United States. It’s something that doesn’t come very often so I am going there well prepared not only to do well for myself but to be a Zimbabwean ambassador and open doors for other young Zimbabwean athletes,” Chibvure said.
The camp will also be an opportunity for Chibvure’s coach Kelvin Kawadza to also learn from instructors coming from the United States and other elite baseball playing nations.
The Africa elite camp will be held in Johannesburg from December 4 to December 15.
