
Barwick School shine in AMG festival
BARWICK School shone in AMG tournament by winning three of the five trophies that were up for grabs at this year primary schools hockey and rugby tournament.
Their Fillies A and Fillies B hockey teams displayed flawless skills as they won the Under-11 sections.
The Fillies B, led by Anesu Gwaradzimba scored the most goals in their section as they secured the trophy for the second year running.
The Fillies A were in a class of their own as Samara Muganyi was unstoppable scoring eight goals in the tournament.
Not to be outdone the Barwick first team rugby which overpowered their opposition with a strong and fast forward pack. They were unbeaten as they retained the trophy they won last year. In the final game of the day against a hard running Rydings team, Barwick won the tightly contested game 10-5.
Tatenda Chara rallied his team well by scoring the decisive try to ensure Barwick clinched the trophy once again. Eaglesvale Prep were well deserved winners of the Colts Rugby Trophy as they dominated, winning all games by a comfortable margin. The Michael Ranken coached team were in a class of their own.
In the Under-13 girls section, Lendy Park also retained the trophy after winning their section. The girls from Marondera played some excellent and smooth flowing hockey throughout the morning. Tournament director, Tan Dinhidza described the festival as a resounding success and a great platform for nurturing talent in Zimbabwe.
The festival was sponsored by AMG Global Chartered Accounts. AMG representative, Never Makova, said: “We are proud to be giving back to the community by supporting sport at grassroots level. As AMG, we pledged our continued support for the festival in future years”, said Makova.
