Bad Grammar Costs Zimbabwe Wrestling
Wrestling is not a recognised sport in Zimbabwe – officially.
The Zimbabwe Wrestling Federation is not an affiliate of the Sports Commission – Zimbabwe’s supreme sports body – after their constitution was turned down three years ago, poor grammar being one of the reasons.
In their open meeting with the Minister of Sport, the ZWBC board members currently underway, the board indicated that they had their constitution turned down and referred back for corrections as there were “areas including separation, clauses and grammar” that needed to be corrected.
The association had been operating on a 1994 constitution that is “outdated and needs amendments” and they were directed to work on a new constitution in 2013 but since then, there has not been any follow-up.
At the meeting, there is a proposal to combine amateur wrestling with professional wrestling so that they fall under one board.
Wrestling has not paid affiliation fees to the international wrestling mother body, owing United World Wrestling $1 800 and last year they could not participate in the Africa Games due to their bad standing.
