Akbay Hails Workaholic Gahadzikwa

Highlanders coach Erol Akbay has hailed Allen Gahadzikwa for his workmanship after the midfielder handed Bosso the winner with a second half header in the 1-0 win over Harare City which kept their hopes of a league title in a decade.

Gahadzikwa who made his name at Motor Action before playing for FC Platinum, was discarded by CAPS United without seeing much action, but has been rediscovering his touch under Akbay at Highlanders.

Akbay described Gahadzikwa as a workaholic who has added another dimension to their play as he links well with the strikers and also has the ability to score goals.

“Allen has come in with a refreshing dimension to the team because he is very good in playing behind the strikers. He has been very important for us in the matches that he has played because he can also score goals like what he did,” said Akbay.

Gahadzikwa who scored his first goal for Bosso in the derby against How Mine before winning a penalty attributed his resurgence to the reception he got when he joined the club.

“When I joined Highlanders, I was embraced by everyone, from the players, coaches and the supporters. It’s easier to do well when you have people with faith in you around. The coach really believes in me.  Even though I am playing well at the moment, I feel I am not yet at my best, i still have more room to improve,” said Gahadzikwa.

The midfielder beat Tafadzwa Dube with a powerful header to torch wild celebrations among the optimistic Highlanders supporters who rallied behind their team from the start up to the end.

With the win, Highlanders reduced the gap between them and the log leaders FC Platinum with six matches before the end of the season.
