Zim Cricket Umpire Breaks New Ground

THE stars keep on shinning for Zimbabwe Cricket umpire Langton Rusere who will be one of the match officials at season five of theCaribbean Premier League T20 in the West Indies.

The 2017CPLT20 edition kicks off this Friday running until September 9.

Rusere becomes the first Zimbabwean umpire to officiate in the CPL and the second to be at a T20 global event after Russel Tiffin’s involvement in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008.

Recently, Rusere represented Zimbabwe Cricket as a match official at the ICC Women’s World Cup in England.

He featured in the semi final of the tournament in a match that pitted India and Australia.

Apart from Rusere and Tiffin, other Zimbabwean umpires who have officiated at major tournaments include the late Ian Robinson, Kevan Barbour, Owen Chirombe and Jeremiah Matibiri.

Robinson was a veteran of three ICC World Cups in 1992, 1996 and 1999, Barbour in the 2003 World Cup whilst Chirombe and Matibiri have two Under-19 World Cups each between the period 2010 and 2016.

Rusere was also in attendance at the 2016 Under-19 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Tiffin holds the record for most ODI and Test matches by a Zimbabwean umpire which stands at 152 and 44 respectively.
