Zim Cricket Buckles To Pressure, Calls Zhuwao And Williams To Squad

Mashonaland Eagles batsman Cephas Zhuwao and left-hander Sean Williams of Bulawayo Metropolitan Tuskers have been recalled to the Zimbabwe squad for next month’s ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers after having been omitted from the initial squad released on February 13.

According to a tweet posted by Zimbabwe Cricket, Zhuwao and Williams will take the places of Ryan Burl and Tarisai Musakanda.

There has been a lot of pressure for chairman of selectors Tatenda Taibu and his panel to include the in-form Cephas Zhuwao following the left-hander’s good form against Kenya in a limited overs series match in Mutare while injury had ruled out left-hander Sean Williams, who is nursing a broken finger.

Zimbabwe are in group B alongside the ICC World Cricket League runners-up Nepal, Afghanistan, Hong Kong and Scotland.

The Chevrons will first meet Nepal at Queens Sports Club on March 4 followed by their biggest group stage match March 6 against Afghanistan at Queens Sports Club. After a few days’ rest, Zimbabwe takes to the field at Queens Sports Club to face Hong Kong on March 10 before they round off their group fixtures two days later against Scotland at Bulawayo Athletic Club.
