Former Zimbabwe Cricket coach Dav Whatmore says he was “shocked”when he recieced news that he had been fired as Chevrons coach last week.

"The only comment I'd like to make is that I was indeedshocked when told by the ZC managing director (Wilfred Mukondiwa). I'llhave more to say at a later date. Please respect my wishes". 

Whatmore's removal – that left bowling coach Makhaya Ntinias interim coach – is more because of the poor winning rate by the Chevronsteam, it is learnt here. 

Whatmore, will visit his birth country Sri Lanka beforeheading to his adopted country Australia. 

The 63-year-old Whatmore said: "I am still in Zimbabwebut before returning to Australia, soon will leave for Sri Lanka first. I amscheduled to meet my wife (Katheryn) there". 

Whatmore was born in Ceylon (now known as Sri Lanka) and waseducated at Royal College, Colombo. He and his family migrated to Australia in1962.
