Taylor Rules Out Swift Return
Former Zimbabwe national cricket team captain Brendan Taylor says that he will not return to the Chevrons for at least a year.
Taylor left Zimbabwe in March 2015 to play for Nottinghamshire in England, joining them on a three-year contract.
He is ineligible to play for Zimbabwe for the duration of the contract, as he effectively becomes a European Union citizen for the length of the contract on a so-called Kolpak deal.
New convenor of selectors Tatenda Taibu has been tasked to bring back to the national team key players in the diaspora such as Taylor.
“I've had a brief chat with Taibu and I saw him in the UK but he knows where I stand and that I've still got a year on my contract,” Taylor told Sportszone.
“There's a possibility of extending that contract, as well as possibilities with Zimbabwe, so I'll focus on next season in England before making other plans, so the talks haven't come to any conclusion.”
Taylor is off-season with Nottinghamshire and hopes to play in the Bangladesh Premier League or elsewhere in the coming weeks.
Taylor admitted that it was difficult watching the first Test against Sri Lanka knowing that he could have been part of the team.
“It's hard to sit back and watch when you feel like you should be there,” he said.
“I'm certainly very passionate about playing international cricket for for Zimbabwe, and Zimbabwe and Nottinghamshire are both close to my heart.”
