Takashinga Stripped Off Bonus Points
TAKASHINGA Cricket Club’s quick route to the Uganda Quadrangular Series championship got tangled after tournament organisers removed bonus points from their overall points tally on Friday.
After the defeat to Uganda XI on Thursday, Takashinga remained on 18 points leading the hosts by a slender one point with tournament organisers distributing circulars that catered for bonus points.
Statistics changed Friday morning with event organisers saying the playing conditions had no room for bonus points which had, however, been issued to teams on the past four match days.
This resulted in Takashinga losing three points, Uganda XI two points and Uganda Select one point.
Notably this situation made Takashinga be at par on 20 points with Uganda XI –statistics that make the series to be decided on the final day on Saturday.
It’s highly likely the winner of the series will be decided by net run rate should both sides win.
Takashinga will take on Uganda Select at the Kyambogo Oval while Uganda XI face off with Kenya XI at the Lugogo Oval.
Leg spinner Tafadzwa Kamungozi says his Takashinga peers have to step on the gas to claim the tournament.
“I think tomorrow (Saturday) we have to just bring our A game. Mostly our batting we have to be on point; our batters haven’t been scoring lots of runs early on so I think tomorrow they will show up.”
Nonetheless, the bonus points issue didn’t affect Takashinga as they recorded a 95–run victory over Kenya XI at the Lugogo Oval on Friday.
Neither did losing the toss have an effect on Takashinga who battled morning conditions to be 250 all out in 48 overs.
This was Takashinga’s highest total of the series that was anchored by Charles Kunje (56), Wellington Masakadza (51) and Tinashe Kamunhukamwe (46) while Kenya XI’s Raul Seedhar claimed 4-64 and 3-32 for Emmanuel Bundi.
In reply, Kenya XI were 155 all out in 46,4 overs with Kamungozi (4-28) being the pick of the Takashinga bowlers backed up by captain Roy Kaia chipped in with 2-23.
“Our bowling has been on point so we don’t have worries on our bowling part,” Kamungozi added.
