TAKASHINGA Cricket Club captain Roy Kaia has ordered his specialist batters to recharge their batteries and come good in the remainder of the Uganda Quadrangular Series.

Takashinga registered their second victory after dismissing Kenya XI by three wickets at the Lugogo Oval on Monday.

However, the win over Kenya XI was almost a replica of Sunday’s game against Uganda XI in which it had to suck in the lower order to reach the respective targets.

On Monday Kenya XI were 184 all out in 50 overs and Takashinga surpassed the target at 186-7 in 28,4 overs.

This time, Innocent Kaia (47), Roy Kaia (45) and Forster Mutizwa (25 not out) had contributions to take Takashinga to the Promised Land.

“I am not convinced with how we are chasing these totals,” Roy Kaia said.

“In terms of batting we need to score big runs not struggling to chase 111 and today (Monday) we were about to struggle to chase 185. With our top batters in the squad I think that’s criminal.”

He added: “(on Sunday) Timycen showed us how to bat on hose wickets and today (Monday) Forster anchored he innings and saw the team home and as a skipper that is what I ask for from every batter.”

Takashinga complicated their lives against Kenya XI having pinned them at 65-5 before letting them off the hook to score a tricky 184.

“I think bowling early on we went too complacent trying too many things especially the middle period,” Roy Kaia said.

Leg spinner Tafadzwa Kamungozi (3-28), Roy Kaia (2-29) and Tapiwa Mufudza (2-38) had a larger claim for wickets for Takashinga.

For Kenya XI, Avbet Desai (42), Rahul Seedhar (32) and Aman Gandhi (25) had notable scores which gave them hope of earning a first win which eluded them.

Although Takashinga are yet to show their class, they have now collected 10 points from the two wins which place them on pole position. It’s also an encouraging position to end of the first round of matches on a positive note.

Takashinga will have to up their gear when they face Uganda Select at the same venue on Tuesday.

“Starting from tomorrow (tuesday) when we play Uganda Select I think I will ask our top batsmen to make sure we score some big runs on these wickets especially with our bowling attack we can defend any total,” he said.
