Sting’’ Gonorenda Talks Tough Ahead Of International Cruiserweight Title Fight

Zimbabwean boxer Chamunorwa ‘‘Sting’’ Gonorenda is confident of winning the international cruiserweight title against Congolese fighter Djokito Sakuji in a boxing extravaganza set for the City Sports Centre tomorrow. Harare will tomorrow host five different title fights with boxers from Europe and across the continent set to battle it out against the locals.

Heavyweight boxer, Elvis ‘‘Bomber’’ Moyo, will be the highlight of the night when he takes on Maksim Pedyura of Ukraine.

Gonorenda urged Zimbabweans to come in their numbers and cheer the local boxers.

“I am ready for the championships and I am prepared to lift my country’s flag high with a good performance,’’ he said.

“I call upon all Zimbabweans to come in their numbers and cheer for me, as well as other Zimbabwean boxers, their spirit pushes me to achieve more.

“I trained hard for this tournament and I cannot spend my time preparing this hard to lose, I will make my country very proud.

“Wherever I go I will be determined to lift the country’s flag high and I will do my best again, the other boxers are ready and motivated and I think it will be a good tournament for Zimbabwe,” said Gonorenda.

Wesley McDade will also fight against Bright Mdoka of Malawi for the international super middleweight title.

Monalisa Sibanda and Chiedza Homakoma will also battle for the Zimbabwe national female lightweight bout.
