Steven Ferreira Wins Nasho Kamungeremu Memorial Golf Championship

STEVEN Ferreira managed to win the inaugural Nasho Kamungeremu memorial golf championship that ended at Chapman on Wednesday.

The two day event was in honour of the late former Zimbabwe Professional Golf Association president Kamungeremu who passed away in 2007 from heart attack.

The Borrowdale Brooke based professional carded an impressive five-under on Tuesday which he complemented with another five-under for a total 10-under.

Ferreira was happy with his performance and hopes he will take the fine form into the Zimbabwe open scheduled for next week at Royal Harare.

“I am so happy with the outcome I worked really hard and it was tough to win this event. The level of competition is high as Nyasha Muyambo pushed me all the way especially in the front nine.

“I managed to regain my composure despite getting a penalty shot when the ball hit a tree and bounced on my caddie for me to get a double bogey.

“I quickly recovered managing three birdies on holes six, seven and eight which helped me a lot,” said Ferreira.

The player who is the country’s leading professional locally pocketed $643 for his efforts and will be a good motivation for him going to the big one next week.

“I hope we will continue with this fine form until we get to the Zimbabwe Open and hopefully a local will win it this time around,” he added.
