National Cricket Team Gear For World Cup Qualifiers

THE Zimbabwe national women’s cricket technical team is hoping to get some international fixtures prior to the World T20 qualifiers set for Sri Lanka in 2017.

In the meantime, the ladies are going about their business with one-on-one training sessions at Harare Sports Club.

After a clean sweep during the Africa WorldT20 qualifiers in April, the ladies team has not been active on the centre, but in the nets.

The road to the WorldT20 tournament set for West Indies in 2018 started well for Zimbabwe who trounced their African counterparts early this year.

Next up is the World qualifiers in Sri Lanka next year but the dates are yet to be advised.

Zimbabwe’s assistant coach Leonard Nhamburo reckons it is imperative to rectify mistakes from the previous encounters.

“We are waiting for confirmation of games against South Africa, who are keen to come and play this side.

“We would like to get games with other local teams too before the World qualifiers,” he said.

“We have been doing one on one sessions working on basically their skills and correcting mistakes we picked during matches,” he said.

“I think this is the best time to correct mistakes when there are no games,” said Nhamburo.

He added that they have made time for every player in the national set up.

“We have worked with all the girls from Harare and I have also moved around other provinces checking on other players and helping our high performances coaches on what to do.

“We are trying to have all our players available and use that as practice.”
