'Let’s Take Risks’: Streak
New Zimbabwe cricket coach Heath Streak says that it's time for the team to take a more positive approach and to take risks, even if it results in defeat.
Zimbabwe play Sri Lanka in their 100th Test match starting on Saturday, with a record of 11 wins, 26 draws and 62 defeats in their 99 Tests so far.
“One thing I can promise is a change in attitude,” said Streak ahead of the game. “Collectively we've all decided that we're no longer just going to play and compete, we want to go out there and win.
“We may risk losing by playing with that sort of intent, but you've got to risk losing in your pursuit of victory.”
The Chevrons have only played 10 Tests in the past four years, with the last wins coming over Bangladesh and Pakistan in 2013.
There have been 15 Test matches between Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, with 10 wins for Sri Lanka, 5 draws and no wins for Zimbabwe.
In the 99 Tests so far, 99 players have represented Zimbabwe, and there have been 53 centuries, including Streak's unbeaten 127 against West Indies at Harare Sports Club in 2013.
“I was more known as a bowler, so it was a special occasion, it was something I really cherished,” said Streak.
“I'm looking forward to one or two of our guys doing that during the course of this Test and during the series – the batting conditions should be good.”
