
Kwekwe Ready To Host ICC World Cup Qualifiers
THE stage has been set for the much anticipated International Cricket Council World Cup qualifiers that will be held at Kwekwe Sports Club next month.
The much hyped qualifiers which will run for 21 days from March 4 to 28 and 10 countries are participating.
Harare Sports Club and Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo will hosts the other matches.
Midlands Cricket Association Secretary General John Makuwalo said the association is ready to host other countries.
“So far we are doing very well and we are more than ready to host other countries,” he said.
“The ICC recently inspected the Kwekwe Sports Club pitch and expressed satisfaction with the progress made. Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Cde Owen Ncube was also impressed by the province's preparation,” said Makuwalo.
Only two teams will qualify for the World Cup and will be joining other teams like England that have already qualified.
Recently the Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) started refurbishing Kwekwe Sports Club in preparation of the World Cup Qualifiers.
Participating teams are West Indies, Ireland, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, UAE, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Scotland, Hong Kong and Nepal.
