Heath Streak Confident Of Landing ZC Job
FORMER Zimbabwe National Cricket team captain Heath Streak is confident of landing the vacant national team coaching job, after undergoing interviews on Wednesday.
Zimbabwe Cricket Board has been on the lookout for a new coach following the sacking of Australian Davnell Whatmore in June with nine months remaining on his contract.
Former Proteas fast bowler Makhaya Ntini has been Zimbabwe's caretaker coach since Whatmore's dismissal.
The ZC board interviewed Streak, ex-national team player Andy Blignaut and South African duo of Peter Kirsten and Justin Summons for the post.
Streak’s experience following a stint with the Bangladesh national team which he transformed to a competitive side as a bowling coach as well that of being a coach of Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League, gives him an edge over the trio of Blignaut, Kirsten and Summons.
Speaking from his Old Mutual Heath Streak Academy in Bulawayo yesterday, the former Zimbabwe Captain believes his experience will come in handy towards getting the national team back to its competitiveness.
“I’ve lots of experience as a player and a coach which I hope to bring should I land the job.
“Among other things that I’ll bring is to try and get players involved in decision making so that they feel part of the team,” said Streak.
