Four Teams For Old Mutual Heath Streak T20 Africa Cricket Cup

THE second edition of the Old Mutual Heath Streak Twenty20 Africa Cricket Cup takes place at the Old Mutual Heath Streak Cricket Academy in Bulawayo from 12 to 15 August.

Four teams are participating in this year’s edition of the Under-14 competition, these being inaugural winners Fazak Zimbabwe, Eco Bank Namibia, Choppies Botswana and Pepsi Zambia.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s tournament on Monday, Joseph Rego, the Old Mutual Heath Streak Academy Trust chief executive and executive director said they have added one more team due to demand. Rego announced that the tournament is getting bigger with plans to include one additional country to every addition.

“The popular tournament is growing in leaps and bounds and it is our endeavour to include additional nation every edition ensuring “Old Mutual Heath Streak Africa Cup” finds a berth on the global cricketing map as the largest Under-14 inter-nation cricket tournament,’’ said Rego.

Streak, the president of the Academy’s Trust said he was eagerly anticipating the future stars of the game competing for the esteemed trophy.

National cricket team captain Graeme Cremer as well as Old Mutual Insurance Company managing director Donald Muthe will be the prominent guests during the tournaments. Bulawayo based national team players are also expected to grace the event.

The inaugural edition of the tournament took place in May 2015 on Africa Day where three teams, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Botswana took part. Zimbabwe beat South Africa in the final that was witnessed by Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Winners of Africa Cup will play against a Twenty20 exhibition match on the final day against an Old Mutual Heath Streak development team selected from 20 top cricket playing schools from Bulawayo’s high density areas.

Unveiled on Monday was the tournament trophy as well as the Team Fazak Zimbabwe’s playing shirt. The launch was attended by Fazak Africa MD Zak Hawa as well as his son Mikail who will be part of the local side.
