
BREAKING:Back Injury Rules Panyangara Out Of India Series
A back injury has ruled out Chevrons opening bowler Tinashe Panyangara from the India ODI and T20 series Sportszone has learnt.
Panyangara, 30, was the big name missing on the 18-man squad sent by Zimbabwe Cricket ahead of the limited overs series running from June 11-20 at Harare Sports Club.
The squad also saw the return of Mountaineers player Timycen Maruma whose last international matches were in 2014 and also batsman Brian Chari has been given another shot in the senior team.
Newly appointed interim captain, Graeme Cremer is also returning from a broken wrist during the WorldT20 warm up matches in March.
All-rounders Luke Jongwe (head) and Neville Madziva (thump) are also back to full fitness and are ready to take part under interim coach Makhaya Ntini who will be assisted by his compatriot Lance Klusener as the batting coach.
Panyangara’s setback occurred on Monday during the squad’s practice match at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo were they were camping last week.
The Chevrons team physio Anesu said Panyangara will undergo a scan to determine his time on the sidelines.
“Yes he has a back injury and currently awaiting for MRI scan results which will tell us the extent of the injury and possible prognosis,” said Mupotaringa.
In Panyangara’s absence Tendai Chatara, who will be playing his first home series since breaking his shin in social soccer last year, will lead the attack.
Taurai Muzarabani who has replaced Panyangara will also claim for a starting place in the team.
It has been an eventful past week in the Chevrons camp which saw Dav Whatomre’s contract as head coach being terminated while Hamilton Masakadza was stripped off his captaincy across all formats.
