Tsipa Rules Again

THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League top scorer and Caps United’s veteran gunslinger Leonard Tsipa has been named Player of the Month for the second time in a row after he bagged the October award.

The 34-year-old striker was also the Player of the Month for September and is expected to lead Makepekepe’s attack against Ngezi Platinum Stars on Sunday.

Makepekepe gaffer, Lloyd Chitembwe, who is on the brink of guiding United to a first league title in 11 years, also won the monthly award, succeeding Highlanders’ Erol Akbay who won the September award.

The Green Machine collected seven points in October, a 3-1 away at Border Strikers, a remarkable last gasp comeback in the 3-3 draw against Dynamos and a slender 1-0 vcitory against Rufaro.

Caps United shot to the top of the log standings on October 9, when Tsipa opened the scores in the 3-1 win over Border Strikers at Dulivhadzimu.

Simba Nhivi and Tafadzwa Rusike were also on target.

Tsipa missed the Harare Derby at the National Sports Stadium on October 16 but returned with a crucial goal as Caps United got the better of Moses Chunga’s Harare City at Rufaro on October 29.

He is now on 11 goals, according to statistics released by the PSL last week.

Tsipa, a firm favourite for the 2016 Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year gong, has refused to be carried away by his growing status on the domestic scene.

“We just have to keep working as a team,” Tsipa told SportsZone.

On 57 points, Makepekepe will clinch the league title on Sunday if they beat Ngezi Platinum at the NSS while their closest rivals FC Platinum fail to beat Highlanders at Mandava on the same afternoon.

Pure Platinum Play last beat Bosso at Mandava in 2011.

They have 55 points while Bosso are four points behind Makepekepe in third position.
