Old Mutual Tag Rugby Leagues Come To LIfe

The Old Mutual Tag Rugby Trust Community League has come to life and 36 teams from Harare, Bulawayo, Hwange and Victoria Falls were all in action with the hope of winning their respective league titles.

Epworth’s Mathew Rusike Orphanage hosted Harare A League’s first round of games while the city’s B League games were at Hatclife High, Entabeni Primary School was the centre for the City of Kings’ League while St Josephine Bakita in Mkhosana hosted both Hwange and Victoria Falls games.

According to TRT official Tinashe Shamu Over 360 boys and girls participated across the country with more than 13 communities being represented at all four centres.

“Seeing children boys and girls from places where rugby is not common play and excel is a milestone in itself,” added Shamhu.

However, for the next two weeks, the clubs will take a break where they will community projects within ranging from clean-up campaigns to tree planting.

 

“We find this agreat way to introduce tag rugby to boys and girls in communities and also as a way for us to develop the game, coaches and ultimately develop the communities with tag rugby as the catalyst.”
