Mutare City Relegation Woes Mount
Dynamos put up a decent performance to add on to Mutare City Rovers's relegation woes in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter played at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The loss saw Mutare City Coach Taku Shariwa admitting that it was a setback in their fight against relegation, while Dynamos upped their chances of a top four finish as they are in fourth spot with 43 points after the result.
Rodreck Mutuma gave Dembare a fourth minute lead before a Dominic Mukandi stunner in the second half sealed maximum points.
With Tsholotsho winning 2-1 against Highlanders on Saturday, Mutare City’s loss confirmed their position, a point behind the Bulawayo based side, which made life difficult for the Mutare base side but Shariwa still believes they have a chance for survival.
“Every day we have to fight because they are still 2 games to go and we are just separated by one point so we have to move on and redeem ourselves quickly when we face Harare City.
“We have been there and this is the first time that we have slid back in the second half but I can’t rule out our chances,” said a hopeful Shariwa.
Mutare City had a chance to draw level when it was still 1-0 in the first half but Agrippa Murimba’s shot from inside the box was saved by Ashley Reyners in goal for Dynamos.
Shariwa believes that could have been their turning point had Murimba buried his effort.
“It was a turning tide because when you are playing former champions away from home and you are in a relegation fight then it counts for everything.”
Elsewhere, a solitary strike by Darryl Nyandoro was enough to give Chicken Inn the edge over How Mine in a Bulawayo derby played at Luveve Stadium.
At Barbourfields BULAWAYO City turned on the heat in the second half to beat visiting ZPC Kariba 3-1.
The defeat saw ZPC Kariba dropping down two places on the the league table from fourth to sixth after Dynamos and Chicken Inn won their games.
Relegated Border Strikers played a goalless draw with Triangle at Dulivhadzimu.
