HERENTALS Football Club brought the most business to the majority of the Northern Region Soccer League clubs during their away games in 2017.

Most teams recorded their highest attendances of the season, in terms of spectatorship and gate levies, when they hosted the 2017 league champions; Herentals.

A survey carried out by Sportszone revealed that 12 clubs made more business as a result of hosting Herentals this season.

The highest attendance was recorded at Chegutu Pirates where 1300 fans watched the match day 15 fixture against Herentals at Pfupajena followed by Golden Valley in week 22 at Rimuka with 1000 fans.

NRSL chairman Willard Manyengavana told Sportszone that the league has three main crowd pullers in Chegutu Pirates, Karoi United, Golden Valley and Herentals -the fourth team- had become an attraction mostly in its away games.

“Our crowd pullers in terms of supporters are Chegutu Pirates, Karoi and Golden Valley that’s the order and of course Herentals were there as well.

“When Herentals are at home they may not have much as compared to Chegutu Pirates who can reach as far as 1000 fans. But Herentals when they play small teams away they have good crowds,” he said.

Additionally, Chegutu Pirates recorded three games that hit the 1000-mark against Golden Valley (1100), Ngezi Platinum Under-19 (1200) and Herentals (1300) in week 19, 10 and 15 respectively.

Chegutu Pirates still hold the record for high attendances at home.

On the other hand, four clubs in Cranborne Bullets, Trojan Stars, Banket United and Mushowani Stars recorded their highest attendances and gate levies against other teams mostly in derbies.

There were, however, no figures sourced from Harare City Cubs as club secretary wasn’t available.
