Harare City's Madzivanyika Under The Spotlight Again

Harare City FC coach Mike Madzivanyika thinks his team has turned the corner following last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Tsholotsho as the Sunshine Boys prepare to host pacesetters Ngezi Platinum on Sunday.

Last Saturday’s win was City’s first victory in six matches and speculation over Madzivanyika’s job had already begun.

Harare City secretary general Mathew Marara made it clear the club was gunning for the title when the 2017 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League begun but the situation on the ground is not looking good for the Sunshine Boys.

The Sunshine Boys are fourth from bottom with six points out of a possible 18 which translate to a paltry 33 percent success rate.

Madzivanyika is worried but he thinks last Saturday’s victory over Tsholotsho at Dulivhadzimo will be a morale booster.

“We hope we have turned the corner. That victory was a morale booster and you can see from the way the boys are training.

“The boys are gaining confidence which I think was lacking,” said Madzivanyika after Thursday morning training at ZB Sports Club in Harare.

Madzivanyika will be under the spotlight once again when Harare City play Ngezi Platinum at Morris Depot on Sunday.

Tonderai Ndiraya’s men are joint top with Highlanders on 13 points and have only tasted defeat once against Yadah Stars.

Madzivanyika believes his boys will be up to the task.

“Every game has its own difficulties but I have been telling the boys it is possible to win matches.

“We are preparing for Ngezi and we will fight,” he said.

Harare City will be missing the services of midfield workhorse James Jam through injury while Tendai Samanja is not yet 100 percent fit.
