Zuze Steps Into "Father's" Shoes
After spending close to six months behind the curtains, Dynamos assistant coach Biggie Zuze is expected to step onto the fore this Sunday as he looks to continue with the fine form that the Harare giants have enjoyed in recent weeks.
Zuze and goalkeepers coach Zondai Nyaungwa and team manager Richard Chihoro, also a qualified coach, temporarily fill into head coach Lloyd Mutasa’s shoes this Sunday in a home match against Bulawayo City at the National Sports Stadium.
The trio get into the limelight at a time Dynamos have been enjoying their best run this year after going on a four-game winning spree.
DeMbare could have made it five in five in great style last Sunday but their match against Chapungu ended prematurely with the Glamour Boys leading 4-0, and threatening to add more goals, when a goalpost collapsed at Ascot.
Efforts to restore the goal were fruitless leading to the abandonment of the game with more than half an hour remaining.
But Mutasa, who has orchestrated the comeback by the giants, will not be available as he has been appointed one of Sunday Chidzambwa’s assistants in an interim technical team to lead Zimbabwe at this year’s COSAFA Cup in South Africa.
The former midfielder has since joined the national team camp together with skipper Ocean Mushure ahead of the tournament which begins this weekend in South Africa’s North West Province.
However, team manager Chihoro remained hopeful yesterday. DeMbare have since slashed the gap between them and the team at the top of the table to within four points as they await PSL’s decision on the abandoned match with keen interest.
Dynamos secretary-general Webster Marechera said they were still to get communication from the authorities by Wednesday evening and would not pressure them into making a decision.
“We have not heard any message from the PSL. We wait to hear what they are going to say after they had gone through all the reports and then we will respect whatever decision,” said Marechera.
DeMbare have won their last four matches against Harare City, ZPC Kariba, Tsholotsho and Ngezi Platinum to revive their campaign after making a slow start.
But a top of the table clash is on the cards when early pace-setters Ngezi Platinum travel to Luveve to meet Chicken Inn on Saturday.
The platinum miners apparently have hit a bad patch after failing to collect maximum points in their last three outings against Chapungu, Dynamos and lowly Bantu Rovers.
The Gamecocks on the other hand have been rising steadily to reach 27 points together with Ngezi and impressive army side Black Rhinos who lead because of a superior goal difference.
Rhinos will host Harare City in a derby at Morris Depot on Sunday.
