ZPC Kariba coach Sunday Chidzambwa revealed he was a relieved man after his team picked maximum points at home at the expense of visiting Shabanie Mine.
The Kariba side raced into an early lead when Raphael Manuvire found the target three minutes into the game with big striker Francisco Zekumbarwira doubling the lead with quarter of an hour played at Nyamhunga.
Manuvire did justice to a brilliant run by Daniel Chakupe who outpaced the Shabanie Mine defence from the centre line before laying the ball into the path of the midfielder.
Manuvire was also involved in the second goal with a defence splitting pass that Zekumbawira converted. The home team could have added to their tally in the 30th minute when Chakupe beat two defenders on the right flank and unleashed a powerful shot that forced the best out of goalkeeper Samuel Mafukidze.
Zekumbawira was guilty of missing a glorious opportunity in the 47th minute. But Chidzambwa was still happy with the outcome as the power utility men recovered from a disappointing defeat by Highlanders in their previous assignment.
“I feel very much relieved to win this game. But this is a match that we should have taken by a bigger margin if we had applied ourselves fully. The boys played casually and I think we need to improve our mentality and attitude towards games,” said Chidzambwa.
New Shabanie Mine coach Takesure Chiragwi was disappointed by his second defeat in charge.
“I think we went into a slumber in the opening 15 minutes and were duly punished. Probably it had to do with fatigue because these guys arrived here in Kariba late at night. But the good thing is the team is beginning to understand my philosophy. Sooner or later I am sure we will be performing at our best,” said Chiragwi.
