Zim Soccer Starlet Hogs British Media

Rising Zimbabwean playmaker Kundai Benyu’s move to Scottish giants Celtic from Ipswich has caught the attention of Scottish media with the Daily Record describing him as a highly rated teen.

The BBC also carried the story on the 19-year-old’s four-year deal with the Scottish treble winners on Thursday.

The Celtic official website heaped praises on the Zimbabwean who recently received a national team call up but could not pitch up due to logistical issues.

Benyu was in Warriors interim coach Norman Mapeza’s plans ahead of Zimbabwe’s 3-0 thrashing of Liberia in an African Cup of Nations qualifier played in Harare early this month.

“Kundai is a box-to-box midfielder who has been much sought after by some of England’s top clubs,” wrote the Celtic website.

“Everyone at Celtic welcomes Kundai to the club and wishes him every success in the green and white Hoops,” Celtic said.

Benyu is now expected to link up with his new teammates at their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Speaking exclusively to the official Celtic website, Kundai said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Celtic. It’s a massive honour to sign for the Scottish champions and one of the world's truly great clubs.

“It’s also a great opportunity for me to continue to develop as a footballer under Brendan Rodgers.

“I’m looking forward to meeting up with my new Celtic team-mates. I know there’s a lot of hard work ahead of me but I am ready for this, I’m looking forward to the challenge and I can’t wait to get started.”
