The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) President, Phillip Chiyangwa, has congratulated newly elected Liberia president and former World Footballer of the Year George Weah.

In a statement released by ZIFA on Friday afternoon, Chiyangwa said football had a responsibility to unite the world.

“The Executive Committee, Council and Secretariat would like to congratulate George Weah on his election as the President of Liberia.

“We are elated by this incredible achievement by an icon in the football fraternity, and we do believe that as the football family we have a responsibility to unite the world through sport in general and football in particular,” read part of the statement.

“We want walk with you in this career and journey you have chosen and we wish you all the best as you take on new challenges ahead.

We are positive that the same determination and motivation which saw you succeed as a football player will lead you to great success as a leader of the people of Liberia.”
